History:
Two generations ago, the Dawnlanders were ruled by a great stallion named Reginar and his beloved mate, Ruxandra. They ended the Mad War of the insane stallion, Aeron, descendant of Bathsheba. With the end of his rule, came a new beginning. A peace treaty was signed and the Strip became neutral grounds for both sides. Not much has been said of the couple's young, but it was the birth of a young filly that set the course for the beginning of her story. Gifted with the combative nature of Ruxandra, a dark mare claimed to be the daughter of Ruxandra and Reginar himself. She grew strong and wise like her mother, a prideful warrior with a heart filled with distrust for the Wastelander. She, like many Dawnlanders shared the belief that Wastelanders should not be allowed to gain land or power. With her birthed the believe that power should be used rightfully and not abused. She grew up in a time of peace between the two factions, but that peace would never last. She sparred with the youth like her, learning skills from Ruxandra, which would pass on to her future generations. The young mare, who had come to be called Soreana, grew into a fine warrior in the making. She took a mate as the Unrest took over the Wastelands. Her parents had chosen to remain watchful instead of attacking while they were weak. She and her mate, a strong Destrier stallion named Avdima, struggled with the decision and were struck by tragedy as Reginar passed on. Soreana mourned the death of her father and stood strong for Ruxandra who had taken another mate. Soreana and Avdima were blessed with youth of their own, born in the final stretches of peace. For as soon as their young arrived, Ruxandra's reign as ruler came to an end.
Soreana and Avdima had two colts between them. They grew in a time of unrest and tension, witnessing the death of their grandmother, Ruxandra. Soreana reacted with hated toward the stallions, Cog and Hurricane, but her mate refused to allow her to do them bodily harm. They were pulled into battle, joining the army that Cog created. Their sons fought as soon as they were able. The peace they once knew was long over. Raids were plotted against the Wasteland, their new rulers sadistic and strategic, striking any opportunity. Soreana was critically wounded in a raid and forced to fall back. Avdima pressed onward with his oldest son, Traian. They were lost in the fighting, presumed dead from the raids. Mourning the loss of not only her mate, but her son, Soreana fled to safety with her only remaining family, a young silver colt named Casimir. Soreana healed her wounds in time, but would soon succumb to heartbreak and age. Casimir grew and lived threw the later years of Hurricane and Cog's reign. They too had fallen victim to the battles they caused. With their demise, came the continued militaristic rule of Ashtaroth and Calixa. The queen refused to fight and Casimir grew to be a strong warrior under the new King's rule. The bloodshed continued, but threw the disaster, he found love. Despite the battles and the wounds he suffered, Casimir earned the affection of a gentle, but strong heart mare named Hail. As the battles continued, it soon lead to the birth of three young colts who would know chaos as well as the peace of love.
Casimir and Hail welcomed two colts and a filly, Typhoon, Avalanche and Calamity. The battles waged on and soon Calixa was slain by an unknown assailant and Ashtaroth had vanished in the midsts of war. Thus left the Dawnlanders without a ruler. But in time the battles grew fewer and far between. In that time, the three new generations grew strong and brave. Though the war seemed to come to a halt, many tensions were still prevalent. The Wastelanders were now seen as enemies as far as they were concerned. Her father, Casimir, soon grew mad with the tension and fear that he felt. He began to raid lands and other herds for supplies. Anything to feed and shelter his growing family. Hail grew cold and pulled inward, hardly sparing a moment for her young. The colts grew strong as any warrior in the past, but stood guard over their youngest sibling. Calamity grew in a time of false peace, fighting to get what she needed. She bore distaste for Wastelanders and her own family, believing them to be pushing their privilege of power too far. She refused to show affection for the mare she called mother. Hail's blood turned as icy as her name suggested, only sparing affection for her mate. In her youth, Calamity trained and stole what she needed, not taking help from her older brothers. She believed she could do well on her own, but she had loyalty to the herd they created. Casimir carried the belief of his great grandmother, power was a privilege, but any rules could be skewed. With no leadership, he took matters into his own hands. This would lead to his downfall in time.
Calamity was well into her young adult years when her father proposed a disastrous plan. They would travel past the strip and gather what they needed. It was troublesome and foolish as they appeared to arrive with no opposition. However, the herd was lead straight into an ambush of Wasteland scouts. They were quickly outnumbered and Calamity's vision went dark. She awoke days later on the sands of the strip. She was alone and wounded. Her head throbbed with a migraine and blood dried on the side of her head. She had no memory of what had transpired before and after the ambush. Her memory had forged a gap and she could only remember her name. Her family and herd were as good as dead in her eyes, darkness filling her soul at the thought of the Wastelands. Her father was foolish to think they could cross borders unscathed. She had washed the blood away in a nearby lake, discovering a tear in her right ear. Scowling at her own reflection, she took off in search of food and safety. She learned to survive on her own. She took up refuge in the woodlands of the Dawnlands. She had the skills to survive and as an adult, she would find her own path.
In the night she is plagued by insomnia and nightmares of faceless beings. The screams of those she couldn't see rang in her ears and squeezed her heart. The gap continued to grow wider in her mind, details fading and being replaced by falsehoods birthed by the hatred and anger she felt inside. Her aggression grew into delusions, they had been lead down a foolish path. They abused their power and they took their punishment. Without a lead, the Dawnlands remained in a state of unease. Though battles were less common, there was still tension in the air. Calamity looked upon the strip with suspicion and a sense of safety. The Strip was molded by her ancestors through hard work and strategic minds. She would stand guard over the divide between the Dawnlands and the Wastelands. She was on her own now and she would do all she could to survive and maintain order. She would use the power that she believed everyone held with pride and a sound mind. She would not fall to the same seduction and greed of her father. Wastelands are not to be trusted and she would continue the hatred her family held for generations until finally, they could all live at peace.
Personality:
As volatile as a storm on the horizon and as beautiful as a mirage in the desert. Calamity is every bit what her name suggests. A strict, defensive mare, she doesn't take too well to new faces at first. She is a spiritual mare in touch with nature and believes that everyone is born with power and a privilege to rule. Though she also believes that that privilege can easily be taken away should the need arise. A warrior at heart with a tongue dripping of acid, Calamity only shows fealty toward those she believes use their power responsibly. Calamity is very headstrong and believes that if you want something done right, you do it yourself. She refuses help from anyone, even those she trusts. She will fight until her last breath against those who deserve her wrath. She has a strong distaste for Wastelanders given their history with her family. She is a feisty mare, but she is not without proper manners and reason. She trusts only those under the guidance of the Dawnlands and only a seldom few on the outside. She's a noble mare that holds herself to high regard and of equal footing with stallions. She holds the combative nature of her great grandmother and her mother before her. Despite her volatile nature, she is a rather playful mare. She enjoys keeping those around her on their toes. A sly grin and a bat of an eyelash, she is as ever changing as water. She plays her games, studying those around her. She is never the same mare twice in new environments, changing her tone and mannerisms to get by. She is hard to approach at first, but she treasures alliances above all else.
