The obsidian horse is known for his incredible ability with telekinesis--he's stronger than what is considered normal, being able to lift heavy objects and inflict harm during battles. He also has developed this ability into pyrokinesis, using this ability to ignite his horn into flames to cause more harm when used wisely.
History: There are echoes of a past, so troubling, that it tormented the soul of a broken colt that was brought into the world with less than ideal circumstances. Born from royalty, his mother was one of Ashtaroth's generals; she was ascended because of her nature. Her name was As'leia. She was fierce, feisty, strategic and undeniably clever; the mare was driven by the hatred she harbored for the Wastelanders ever since they caused the death of her first born son during one of the many heated battles between the factions. But, this story happened far before Taranis was even conceived.
His father, Tempest, was a gentler soul, but of great size and stature. His dark crimson pelt shone brightly against the sunlight, and his stance was one that radiated power. He had charm, and charisma, and this usually made him get out of trouble. The two met, and while he had thought that he found his lifelong partner, she did not return the feelings. His mother mated with him not out of love, but knowing he would give her a strong foal for one purpose only--to replace her deceased son, somehow. Her motives were dark in the eyes of many, but in the eyes of others who knew her, her anger and grief had blinded her, making go to great lengths in order to have her beloved son back... somehow.
And thus, the obsidian colt was born. He was born as a gentle male, much like his father. He was highly emotional, and in the eyes of his mother, this was not her goal. She wanted a strong stallion, much like her first son, fierce in battle and a force to be reckoned with. However, there was something that this colt had that her first son hadn't; he was stronger with his powers, far beyond what was considered normal. But, he was gentle, and he took too much after his father, and that seemed like a weakness in the eyes of his mother. She raised him still, making him believe that he was his beloved son, whom she took pride in. His sire had spoken his concerns about Taranis and his incredible abilities, and pleaded her to find him a proper teacher to guide him. She did feel rather afraid, somehow, of his incredible power and what it could do, for it is normal to feel afraid of the unknown; but at the same time, it was the only favorable asset he had. And thus, she ignored his pleas, but told him that she would take care of it during his absence. After all, he needed to leave, for a Wastelander raid had dawned upon them. He fought, but he gave his life in order to save a friend during the battle.
Time passed, and so did his abilities. He thought that he was loved by his mother, but he did not know the lies that had forged his entire existence. And, during the great battle that took Queen Calixa's demise and King Astharoth's disappearance, when he was four years old, he overheard his mother talking with a stallion. Upon silently approaching, he heard the truth--he was just a replacement for his dead brother, and that he was a failed one. He was far too gentle, too soft, and too emotional; even if his powers were mighty, his soft heart was his weakness. He saw his mother attempting to court this male, in order to create a new foal... and try to replace her son all over again.
Upon hearing this, something within him broke. He was shattered, and his entire world crumbled into pieces. Everything he had known and loved, and everything he had believed about her mother, had been a twisted lie. Enraged, the obsidian stallion pierced his flaming horn into her chest, ending her life in the spot. He had done it in private, during the battle, but away from the public eye, so that everyone would think that she had been slain by a Wastelander. Taranis, during this time, had thought that he was alone... but someone had witnessed his crime from the shadows. His heart had broken, and now he felt lost without her in a whirlpool of conflicting emotions. He turned into a volatile, unpredictable hurricane that began to use this anger against the Wastelanders in a sudden wave of anger and despair.
Another of Astharoth's Generals, who always had bitterness against his mother, had observed him from the safety of distance. He was called Abbadon, and it would be a name Taranis would forever remember. Abbadon saw in him a lost colt who needed guidance; he knew that he could use this anger he felt towards her as a favorable tool. And in him, he saw raw, untamed power; he saw how he could turn this unbridled rage as a weapon of destruction against the Wastelanders. He saw in him the perfect apprentice to carry on his legacy after his death. And thus, Taranis joined him, trying to become stronger, trying to prove to himself that he wasn't weak--even if his soul was already weakened by the unforeseen dagger through his heart.
Personality: Broken. If there's a word that could describe the shattered mind of this powerful equine, it would be broken. Taranis came to this world living a lie, and the trauma of the betrayal of his mother caused his soul to break until the sweet, innocent colt that he used to be no longer remained. The stallion is fierce, violent, and he always lives on the extremes; there's always an internal battle in his soul, and this battle is constantly tearing him apart. He is obsessive, often to the point of blinding religious zeal; the male, once he believes in a cause, will go to unmeasurable lengths to consummate the vision he carries in his mind, even if it breaks him apart. He's intense, and acts like a savage, feral beast, unhinged and uncontrollable when under intense amounts of pressure and during moments of battle. He wants to be strong, he wants to intimidate and to be feared; he wants to be everything everyone expects him to be, but at the same time, it is not who he truly is. He is no longer the innocent, gentle colt he used to be, but deep down, he's merely a child, hiding behind a façade of intimidation and violence. He has many facets to his personality, and many layers that are peeled back to those whom he finally trusts. Deep down, he's scared, vulnerable, and depressed. He has no will to live without a goal, and he often inflicts harm upon himself whenever the voices in his head get too loud and overbearing.
While not pursuing something, or someone, the stallion's default stance is usually one of silence and observation. While he's extremely unstable, as long as he feels like he's not failing, he can be calm and collected. He has two sides within him that push and pull; the gentle, protective, sweet colt that he used to be, versus the fierce, dark, brooding male that his mother created. He feels like a monster, and his intense self-hatred is clearly visible when he's stressed and under pressure. He thinks on the extremes, and it affects his personal relationships with others quite often; he needs something, or someone, to anchor him and stabilize the beast within him, somehow. He's prone to lashing out in anger, and his temper tantrums are infamous, for he destroys everything on his path, even himself during those moments. He's somewhat thick-minded in a way; he doesn't easily learn from his mistakes, and he finds himself repeating them quite often until he gets the message. He's blunt, and does not have tact; he is impulsive and explosive, yet extremely receptive. He absorbs information like a sponge, taking in information until he no longer can withhold his anger; he is also highly intelligent despite his outbursts and passion.
The weakness that his mother had seen in him, is the one that he still carries; his emotions. He's highly emotional to a fault. He can be empathetic, and identifies with those who struggle just like he does. His emotions are what drive him; his anger, his pain, his regret, his fear, and his suffering are the things that create the ticking time bomb known as Taranis. He knows he's royalty, and he carries himself with pride because of this, but he knows that it's just a mask he puts on to hide how truly broken he is on the inside. There is still good in him; those who reach into the deeper areas of his soul will find a vulnerable, lonely colt, longing for the approval and true, untainted love of his mother and of those who surround him. They would find a fierce protector, and an insecure but golden heart; a passionate lover, and an empathetic stallion. But, he is now a confused, broken soul, who found a path in life that only leads him to suffering.
All in all, he is now a broken warrior, a king without a crown. An angel that fell from heaven, and rose from hell.
